Equine Veterinary Podiatrist

Scone Equine Group is seeking a full time, experienced Equine Veterinary Podiatrist to be based at the Equine Podiatry and Lameness Centre in Muswellbrook.

This is a permanent long term role with prospects for ownership.

The successful applicant will work as part of a team providing equine podiatry services to Pleasure and Performance Horse clients, Thoroughbred stud and racing clients and hospitalised patients. They will be supported by experienced farriers and registered specialists in Equine Surgery and Internal Medicine.

The Equine Podiatry and Lameness Centre is Australia’s only dedicated podiatry and lameness practice and is recognised around the country as a centre of expertise in the field of equine podiatry. The practice is located in Muswellbrook in the Hunter Valley. It is a beautiful part of rural Australia located close to major regional centres and cities on the east coast.

Anaesthetist Supervisor

The Position

We are seeking a permanent anaesthetist supervisor. This role is diverse and can be individually tailored for suitable applicants.  Experience in equine anaesthesia is necessary and experience in small animal anaesthesia is advantageous.

This role offers:

- 3-4 days in equine anaesthesia.

- Supervision of all anaesthesia processes and procedures in Scone.

- Training of interns with support from senior veterinarians with extensive anaesthesia experience. Coordination of the anaesthesia team for the majority of routine cases.

- Support and training of anaesthesia when required at Pet Medical. Pet Medical is our associated small animal practice with 4 clinics in the Upper Hunter and Sydney

- Support and training when required of anaesthesia in our clinics in Avenel (Victoria) and Tamworth.

- Attendance at relevant seminars and conferences (this will be supported by the business).

- Continuing education when supported by the business.

- Opportunity to work in other areas of our group, beyond anaesthesia, depending on your professional interests.

- Flexibility to work reduced days/hours depending on outside interests e.g. family, sport, hobbies. We encourage our veterinarians to pursue their passions.

- Lifestyle friendly on call roster of approximately one in four.

- Salary base: $100, 000 - $150, 000.

Selection Criteria

- The position would suit a person who has a passion for anaesthesia but also wants the freedom and renumeration associated with a private practice.

- It is necessary for the applicant to meet the necessary requirements to be fully registered as a veterinarian in New South Wales, Australia. For further information, please contact the Veterinary Practitioners Board of New South Wales This is imperative to ensure that you are covered by the practice’s professional indemnity cover.

- The position does not require you to have completed a residency in anaesthesia, although this would be advantageous.

- Applicants who are only eligible for limited registration will not be considered for the position.

Based in the Upper Hunter town of Scone, we are located in the heart of the Thoroughbred breeding industry. This is a beautiful part of rural Australia located close to Tamworth and other major rural centres. Sydney and the beaches of the central coast are just 3 hours away.

Equine Veterinarian Internship at Scone Equine Hospital

Scone Equine Hospital has an opportunity for a veterinarian interested in developing their skills and knowledge in general equine practice with the opportunity to work with and be trained by specialists and experienced veterinarians in the Horse Capital of Australia. As part of the Internship, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to work in a mix of intensive care medicine, ambulatory, radiography, training and experience in surgical and on farm anaesthesia and stud medicine. The months of August and December will provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to focus on radiography on a part time basis; September, October and November will provide opportunities to be involved in the medicine cases at our Clovelly ICU Clinic and in January the successful applicant will have the opportunity to focus on assisting anaesthesia services in surgery. An afterhours roster for Clovelly ICU will be approximately 1 in every 3, however this will be a secondary roster meaning one of our medicine specialists will always be the primary clinician for the afterhours caseload.

Equine Veterinary Surgeon at Scone Equine Hospital

Scone Equine Hospital are seeking applications for an equine veterinary surgeon, located in Scone NSW. This is a full time position.

Duties will include:

Emergency and elective surgeries, including orthopaedic surgeries and arthroscopic surgeries

Emergency caesareans

Lameness x-rays and examinations 

Radiography and endoscopy

First opinion caseloads that include minor surgical procedures, medical illnesses and emergencies and basic animal husbandry issues

Supervision and training of junior veterinarians

Essential Criteria

Veterinary degree

Registered Specialist in Equine Surgery

Registration with NSW Veterinary Board

A minimum of 5 years equine veterinary experience

Knowledge and experience specific to thoroughbreds including breeding

Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment

Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to breeding horses
