Senior Reproductive Veterinarian - (6 month seasonal locum with option to continue)

POSITION:

Scone Equine Group is seeking suitable applicants for a senior reproductive veterinarian for the 2020 southern hemisphere breeding season in 2 of our locations - Scone in NSW and Avenel in Victoria. 

The successful applicant(s) will have responsibility for reproductive veterinary care on client thoroughbred properties as well as other varied clients. The afterhours will be approximately 1 in 3 with adequate back up and second opinion. 

Applicants should have significant experience in reproductive management of mares and be knowledgeable of routine stud medicine and reproduction veterinary work in the thoroughbred industry, as well as on farm neonatal medicine and management of routine cases. It would be an advantage to have worked in a similar role elsewhere in thoroughbred stud practice. It is encouraged to consider the role to include at least 2 successive breeding seasons or a permanent role. The opportunity for an ongoing position can be discussed during the application process.

LOCATION:

The area of Scone, Denman and Murrurundi is in the heart of the thoroughbred breeding industry in Australia with the second largest population of breeding horses in the world. It is also home to a large performance horse population. The Upper Hunter area is also in close proximity to larger regional towns - Tamworth and Newcastle. The area is close to the vineyard region of Pokolbin and the Newcastle beaches are one and a half hours away, or you could be in Sydney with three and a half hours' drive. Scone Equine Hospital is the largest equine veterinary practice in the southern hemisphere, employing approximately 30 equine veterinarians in the peak breeding season time of year.

Avenel Equine Hospital is a full service equine hospital located in the heart of Victoria’s thoroughbred breeding region. The practice offers a comprehensive On Farm service to equine clients in the local area (Avenel, Nagambie, Seymour and Euroa) as well as intensive care and surgical services at our new purpose built hospital. Avenel is approximately one and a half hours away from Melbourne.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent qualification that can be fully registered in New South Wales, Australia. For further information please contact the Veterinary Practitioners Board of New South Wales www.vpb.nsw.gov.au 

Scone Equine Hospital will assist the successful applicant with the VISA requirements for working in Australia if necessary. Applicants who are only eligible for limited registration will not be considered for the position.

REMUNERATION:

- Base Salary range $2250-$2500 per week (AUD) with conditions outlined within a contract of employment

- A car equipped for on farm ambulatory work will be provided and is available for work and private use

- Fully furnished accommodation assistance provided 

- Phone allowance $50 per month 

- Computer tablet provided 

- Membership of the EVA and AVA organisations is provided

- Uniforms

Associate Equine Veterinarian - Scone - (6 month seasonal locum)

The successful applicant(s) will have responsibility for independent veterinary care on client properties as well as supporting senior veterinarians in providing a high level of service on their client thoroughbred farms as well as other client properties. The afterhours roster will be 1 in 3 with adequate back up and second opinion at all times.

Applicants should ideally have experience in equine veterinary practice and be knowledgeable of routine stud medicine and reproduction veterinary work. It would be considered an advantage to have worked in a similar role elsewhere in thoroughbred stud practice. It is encouraged to consider the role to include at least 2 successive breeding seasons. The opportunity for an ongoing position is an option and can be discussed during the initial period of employment.

Associate Equine Veterinarian - Tamworth - (6 month seasonal locum)

Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre has an opportunity for an associate veterinarian interested in developing their skills and knowledge in all aspects of equine practice with the opportunity to work with and be mentored by experienced veterinarians and visiting specialists. 

The successful applicant will have responsibility for independent veterinary care on client properties as well as supporting the senior veterinarians in providing a high level of service on their client farms. An afterhours roster will be 1 in 3 with adequate back up and second opinion at all times.

Applicants should ideally have experience in equine veterinary practice and be knowledgeable of routine stud medicine and reproduction veterinary work. It would be considered an advantage to have worked a breeding season in a similar role elsewhere, but new or recent graduates are welcome to apply.  

LOCATION:

Tamworth is in the centre of the New South Wales North West Pleasure and Performance Horse region. TEVC is a full service equine hospital which offers assisted reproduction services; surgery and intensive care for horses in the hospital and provides a comprehensive on farm service with access to sports medicine service to our equine clients in the region. 

Our involvement with Scone Equine Group gives us enormous support and allows our veterinarians to call on specialist expertise and use resources from the largest equine veterinary group in the southern hemisphere.

Laboratory Administration - Seasonal

Our laboratory has a seasonal position available (August-December 2020). Duties include specimen reception, the transcription and reporting of lab results and general office duties as part of a busy, close knit team.

A proficiency and ability to work in tailored software systems, accurate keyboard skills and an eye for detail are essential. We are looking for someone with good time management skills as well as a confident and professional phone manner. Cert III in Business, knowledge of the thoroughbred industry and a current drivers licence is desirable.
